Laura:
What genre of music do you consider MJM to be?
Michael:
Melodic Heavy Metal
Laura:
What’s the ultimate direction for your band?
Michael:
I look forward to making the MJM brand a household name in the genre of Rock and Metal listeners.
Laura:
How would you describe your music-making process? (example: writing music and lyrics)
Michael:
Every song starts with an idea, a riff. Sometimes I may get an idea for a song that just rolls off my fingertips when I least expect it. I will quickly record the riff onto my phone so I don’t lose it. Other times I may get an idea when I’m driving my car, or walking down the street. Either way, I’ll keep that idea in my mind and see where my imagination takes it. Next, I will fire up my recording studio and start running through the idea to record whatever next happens naturally. Sometimes, the original riff will continue on with a new section or two. There is no one set formula for a song, but, in a hit formula, there is usually a verse, chorus and a bridge. I like to structure my songs so they have signature melody, something a person will remember and be inclined to sing along with. Some songs I will write into that sort of hit formula, other songs, I will let go a bit more progressive because that’s what the idea deserves. It depends on the essence of the original idea.
Laura:
Why call the band “MJM?”
Michael:
MJM stands for ‘Michael J Miller. I have always been the main composer in my recording acts. I’ve been through too many situations with my recording acts, when my band’s identity is at stake because of a critical member change, like the lead singer going weird. When the singer becomes dysfunctional, the band’s whole identity, sound and image, is at stake and I have to start over again and again. At about the turn of the millennium I had had enough. I decided I will be the lead singer. I‘m not going to betray myself. This is the way it is!

Laura:
What should fans expect to experience at a show?
Michael:
Fans can expect to get their asses kicked with some great original rock music! We have selected are best songs for the live show, some vocal and some instrumental. The MJM show really takes you on a trip, and it’s a wild ride, right to the end!
Laura:
Typical question here. Who has influenced you the most via music?
Michael:
There have been lots of great influences for me as I was growing up. Too many to mention them all. The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest & Iron Maiden were probably the biggest influences. I’ve been writing songs since I was twelve years old. I really don’t try to sound like anyone. I have my own style and I think that is quite clear when you listen to MJM IV
